For the first half of this week's lesson I would like you to start to reproduce my 'Magazine Film Review Page' example, using QuarkXpress and found images from the internet. As we are using found images and Lorem Ipsum in place of original text content, the assessment will be focussed on the accuracy of your presentation and your ability to incorporate magazine page conventions. You may also include magazine page elements (conventions) that you have spotted in real products that I have not included in my example. Your magazine film review page will be peer-assessed next lesson!
In the second half of this week's lesson you will be brainstorming and negotiating with your new group members. Which elements of whose treatment will you be using/developing to construct the final treatment for your short film? Or are you going to accept someone's treatment in its entirety? Discuss your ideas and consider the following;
- Will it last 5 minutes? (including ident, titles & credits)
- Are the locations readily available?
- How many actors do you need?
- Where will you recruit actors?
- What is the level of acting ability required?
- Are there any difficult costume requirements?
- Are there any lighting issues?
- Are all the special effects achievable?
- Are there plenty of opportunities to discuss 'representation' in your film?
- What are the prop requirements?
- Would the film lend itself to answering a question on target audience?
Homework;
- Complete your magazine film review page reconstruction and email a pdf copy to me by the end of Friday 23rd September.
- Set up your A2 blog using the following protocol; initialsa2mediagwpahs2012.blogspot.com. Start by going to your blogger dashboard (through your AS blog if necessary) and clicking on 'Create A New Blog'.
- Write a 'Welcome' post which introduces your work and establishes what the production requirements are for this year.
- Write a 'My Group' post which establishes who the group members are (a list will do).
- Write a 'Treatment Ideas' post which represents the progress you made in the second half of today's lesson (I would start by embedding each of the individual treatment presentation films from each of your group members, before going on to write about today's discussion; you can copy the embed code for each film from this blog by pressing 'play' on each video and then clicking the 'embed' and then 'copy code' buttons).
