- To gather feedback about your short from your peers, using the animatic to present narrative, shot types, transitions, titles, credits, dialogue and the soundtrack.
Each group will present their animatic on the IWB via YouTube; you will play your animatic twice. Audience members (peers) will watch carefully during the first viewing and make notes during the second viewing. Audience members should consider the following questions;
- Is the meaning (narrative) apparent to the viewer? Does it make sense?
- Are titles and credits handled appropriately? If not, how can they be improved?
- Is framing good? If not, where could it be improved?
- Has the group chosen appropriate shot distances? If not, where are they inappropriate?
- Are transitions and captions used appropriately? If not, how could they be improved?
- Is dialogue used appropriately? If not, why?
- Does the soundtrack provide appropriate support for the visual images?
- If forced to suggest improvements, what would they be?
- Is the film an appropriate length for this examination?
- Would you recommend that the group redraft the animatic, making some changes or that they continue to the next stage of production? (remember, we are aiming for a level 4 film)
At the end of the viewings, and after a short period of thinking time, the presenting group will lead a discussion during which the questions should be answered. The discussion will be recorded using WireTap on the macbook at the front of the class. At the end of the lesson the recorded discussion will be hosted on Divshare and available for embedding on your personal blogs. You should reflect on this feedback over the Christmas period, posting your thoughts and identifying any improvements you are going to make (if necessary).
If we have time (and we should) we are going to peer assess our own group members' contributions to our success so far. A secret ballot will be used as the vehicle for this assessment!
