- To gather audience feedback on your film treatment in order to identify strong and weak elements.
- To improve or refine the weaker elements using suggestions from your peers.
- To establish how well you have addressed the needs of the target audience for your film by asking peers to identify, without prompting, who the target audience is.
- To establish how well you have used, developed and challenged conventions from a genre by asking your peers to identify, without prompting, elements under each of these headings.
- To construct an 'A2 Media Blog' on which you can present your research & planning to the moderator, your teacher and your parents.
In this lesson you will, as a group, present your completed treatment to the class. After you have read the treatment, you will host a Q&A session where your peers will question your creative decisions and suggest alternatives/improvements. You will have to balance 'defending your choices' with 'accepting/adopting suggestions'. The feedback session will be recorded (audio only) using wiretap (on my Mac on the front desk). The recording will be hosted on Divshare, from where you can copy the embed code and paste it into your blog as an example of research and audience feedback (it will hopefully appease the moderator's call for more multimedia posts in blogs as well). When the discussion part of your session is complete, and the audio recording stops, your peers will be asked to answer the following questions;
What is the target audience for this film?
What is the genre of this film?
What recognisable genre conventions are used in this film?
Which genre conventions are developed?
Which genre conventions are challenged?
If your peers can easily answer these questions then you have strong evidence to present in your blog. If not....? How will you collect this information though? Do you want them all to answer the questions using a paper-based questionnaire format (which you could present as a poll or database) or do you want to make a second audio recording in which peers can contribute opinions? Maybe you want your peers to consider the answers prior to video recording them in a kind of interview/OB style? (You will need to edit the video at a later date though). Which strategy will provide you with the best evidence to present on your blog? You will only have 30 minutes in which to present your treatment, host & record the Q&A session and gather evidence surrounding the identification of audience, genre & conventions. Upon completion of this exercise, you should have enough information to enable you to update and finalise your treatments ready for posting to your new A2 Media Blog.
In the final part of the lesson we will create new A2 blogs; I will provide the address format! Links to your new blogs will be posted here on this blog so that I, and others, can monitor your progress.
Homework;
- Complete your final treatment, export it as a pdf, host it on scribd and embed it into your individual blog. (email your completed treatment to me as well)
- Edit your audio/video from the feedback session, host them on Divshare/Youtube and embed them into your individual blog.
- On an individual basis, list all other pre-production considerations that will need to be addressed before filming can begin. Produce a list that represents the 'workflow'; the order in which these tasks need to be tackled. Post your version of the workflow on your blog.
